Day at the Park

Tyler and I took last Friday morning off together. We had pretty much played with everything in the toy room by 10 o'clock and decided to venture out and see what else we could get into. They have a really nice park near my Mom's house, so we headed that way. She met us there and helped me keep up with him. He was determined to go up every monkey bar and down every slide, so it was a good thing she came. Some of the ladders required one of us at the bottom spotting and the other at the top helping to climb and it would've been way to much for "Jacob" and I to handle on our own. Tyler had a blast though and did in fact climb every rock wall, cross every monkey bar, get on every jumping contraption, and go down every slide... think he even got a couple swings in the mix too! We grabbed some Sonic for lunch and stopped by Walmart on the way home, he passed out in the car after all the excitement was over. Our day "off" wasn't exactly relaxing, but it was great to take a break from the usual and enjoy something new.

Working Man

Tyler is very big into helping us out, no matter what we are doing. He did his share of painting this weekend... which ended up with paint on his face, arms, stomach, hands, and legs. Luckily he has a short attention span and only wanted to help for a few minutes, so not too much damage was done to the carport. He was also helping his Daddy measure. We couldn't resist taking a couple pictures of him deep in thought over his tape measure.

He's gotten to be an accomplished counter, we can make it to 11 with no problems... after 11 he typically goes back to 8 and gets stuck on repeat. We're also making some headway with potty training. If the child could go around bare bottomed he'd be set... unfortunately clothes are required pretty much everywhere so we're still working on it. Since last Sunday night he has not had an accident when running around naked. He has used the potty like a pro all week long.... as long as he's not wearing pants! Now put a pull up on him and it's all out the window. If he wears regular underwear then he'll start to go an stop, but its not real effective. Our plan is to try boxers as much as possible, since they are loose fitting and don't feel like a diaper we're hoping it will help him adjust to using the potty even when dressed. It's hit or miss right now... but he does look adorable in his little boxers if nothing else!

Potty Training....

This has been quite an eventful weekend! We've done some cleaning, some building, some cooking, lots of laundry, and kicked off potty training with Tyler. We've been putting him on the potty occasionally in the morning and before his bath, sometimes he'd go and sometimes he wouldn't. This weekend we got a small potty, stickers, candy, a potty book, and some big boy underwear and gave it a shot. The plan was to put in him underwear and if we noticed him doing the "dance" or if he went a little we'd rush him to the potty. We discovered that Tyler would not go to the bathroom if he was wearing boxers... he held it for 3 hours!! We were putting him on the potty to try every 30 minutes or so, but he wasn't cooperating. He'd start to go, realize he was going and stop... we'd put him on the potty and nothing! Finally after the three hour span, he went! We cheered and tried to build it up... but Tyler asked for a diaper. We put his big boy undies back on and kept up with it most of the day. We did put a pull up on him when Josh's family came over because he was too busy playing with his cousin to keep up with whether or not he was needing to go or not. After they left, we went back to regular underwear and he went on his own TWICE without us asking or saying anything!! Unfortunately there is no way we could keep this up during the week, but I'll let his teachers know to try him on the potty regularly and see what happens. Think we'll keep up the regular undies at home and see how it goes. Wish us luck!!

It's a....

So we weren't going to find out the sex of this baby, and then at the very last minute at the ultrasound we gave in and got a peek! We were going to try and wait until the birth to share the news with everyone else, but we didn't do too well with that either. I was eager to start getting things ready and Josh is just not a big fan of keeping secrets... so we decided to get the room together, get the name set, and share the news with everyone by showing them the nursery. It's been fun watching reactions and telling everyone the good news. The nursery isn't completely finished yet, but it's well on its way. Scroll through the pictures to find out what we're having!

The wall says "Shhh... baby dreaming" above the bed

The new rocker isn't in yet... the old blue one is modeling the crib set!

Kicking the habit...

Tyler is becoming such a big boy. He's speaking very well and is very independent for the most part. We were playing around the house Saturday and it was past nap time at this point. He spotted his school bag and dug out his "nunu." I try and tell him as often as possible that nunu's are gross and for babies and blah blah blah. Well he puts the nunu in his mouth and pulls it back out saying "ewww yucky, thats babies!" I told him yeah thats gross, go throw it in the garbage... and to my surprise he actually did. He took his nap without it that day... asked for it once that night, and hasn't asked for it again. I'm still a little worried about how he will do at school, but so far so good! We might be officially nunu free... until November at least~ Now if we can get out of diapers sometime soon, we'll be all set!
